From canyon roads to track, techniques are fully explored and laid. That said, Twist of the Wrist is worth buying to read and to use as a reference in the future. He clearly explains what to do and not to do to maintain proper driver and motorcycle conditions. Code covers the unique challenges to riding a sportbike as well as how to make best use of the dynamics of a high performance machine.
Weird but not entirely bad. Something in the author's note gives me the impression that the second volume is somehow superior to the first. You can't use all of the pavement on the street without getting close and personal with oncoming traffic. That, and some people only seem to be concerned with the second book. I posted thinking the dupe filter would catch it, which I guess it didn't do. The car wobbled embarrassingly and continued straight ahead. The book also needs some help in flow.
This book does a magnific job at explaining how a motorcycle works, in terms of the intersection of physics, engineering and rider interaction. Many of the techniques described in this book are most useful on the track - cornering, for example. For example he has now encouraged trail braking at all times and spends much more of his time explaining braking, and it does change his actual focus on street and track in regards to the book. I'm still in school, and I am constantly faced with different editions of the same text. This is an easiest way to send files to someone who cannot accept them live. It is not intended for the rider who wants to improve his road skills as most references are solely related to understanding the track and how to use continuous improvement strategies to increase your speed and lower track times.
There is some cheesy acting to try and keep it entertaining but it is bearable. I'm thinking maybe books are not much use for an activity like motorcycling. The book is highly practical and the instructions can be put into immediate use on your motorcycle. Please, if you really want to improve your riding, pass on Code and check out anything by Nick Ienatsch. Plus, the Kindle edition of the book has been updated and I found it easier to read and more current than the original book.
